Review: Kiss Me Heroine Make Smooth Liquid Eyeliner Super Waterproof

I decided to try this eyeliner because I have always seen it at Watsons and have read some “amazing” claims about this eyeliner. I bit the bullet and bought it for $15 aud or so (can’t remember the exact price).

My eyeliner history: I have oily eyelids (combination skin) and wearing eye cream is a must for me.  Therefore, smudging is a very big issue for me.  I prefer liquid over pencil/gel eyeliner for my upper eyelids. My perfect eyeliner will last for over 9-12 hours (when I’m out all day), not smudge and not give me racoon eyes (SO important), has a moderate tip (not too fine) that is easy to draw/control and an intense black. . I have previously used Kate super sharp liner (two types), Mac Teddy Eye Kohl, Holika Holika Pencil Eyeliner, Lancome Artliner, Clio Liquid Eyeliner, Bobbi Brown Gel eyeliner, Maybelline Gel eyeliner, etc. I wasn’t completely satisfied with them and am on the hunt for the next best eyeliner.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Pretty packaging
  • Black colour is very intense and deep

Cons

  • I looked like a racoon by mid morning (after 3 hours). It’s not smudge-proof on my eyes. However, when I do a test it on my hands and draw a thin line, it doesn’t smudge. If you have oily eyelids, avoid this like the plague. This is more likely to smudge, if you: sweat a lot because of the weather, live in humid climates like Singapore, during summer, or have combination or oily skin. Imagine talking to your friends and colleagues without anyone telling you about your racoon eyes until you go to the toilet. The horror!
  • This is NOT tear-proof, contrary to its claims and its bedazzling photo above. My allergies to dust were really bad, and I started tearing up. I wiped my tears and my eyeliner came out on my fingers. I wasn’t wearing any black mascara  so it was this eyeliner that was NOT tear-proof. I doubt its water-proof either.
  • The brush tip is so fine and short, it is REALLY difficult to control. I have been using liquid eyeliners for years (over 15+ different brands and types), this is the HARDEST to control. Sometimes, I would overdraw it as I would get impatient because the tip is so fine. Fine is good but not overly fine. It is definitely not a good choice when you have to rush for work/uni in the morning.
  • The logo and gold markings on the brush disappears after 3 weeks or so (see below).
  • This doesn’t dry as fast as Clio Liquid Eyeliner, sometimes I will get a racoon eye if I blink my eye without letting it dry first.

Overall

  • HG status? More like raccoon status. This is such a terrible eyeliner which smudges so badly, I will not repurchase it.
  • The cute packaging and printing lasts a few weeks before it disappears. But this doesn’t really bother me, as I’m not the biggest fan of “cutesy” packaging.
  • I don’t want to waste it, so I just use this for touchups after work/uni. The black is very intense so it is better for a touchup. Don’t expect to look picture perfect with this racoon-inducing, panda-loving eyeliner after 2-3 hours.
  • This is one of the most over-rated and worst eyeliners I have ever used. I bought the famous mascara from Kiss Me Heroine as well, but that’s for another review. Kate eyeliners, which still smudge on me, are not as bad as this eyeliner. I would not recommend this to anyone who has oily eyelids and intends on getting a lasting eyeliner.

UPDATE
After changing to an aloe vera eye gel, the smudging has lessen but there is still smudging. However, a very weird thing has happened. I have noticed huge droplets of ink gather around the pen tip. As a result of the ink leaking, the liquid eyeliner has dried up in less than 2+ months of tri-weekly use.
